CaptainLock Locksmith wasn’t created by a business plan it was built from a trade that has been part of my life for as long as I can remember.
I grew up learning the trade from my father. Back home, we didn’t even use the word “locksmith.” In Russian, the profession is called слесарь (slesar) a skilled tradesperson who works with metal, doors, locks, and security hardware. We built and installed steel doors, welded and fabricated security products, repaired locks, and travelled across town with grinders and tools to help people get back into their homes and businesses.
Looking back, I realize I wasn’t just learning how to open locks. I was learning how doors work, how security systems are built, and how to solve problems that most people never think about until something goes wrong.
When I immigrated to Canada, I came with a dream of building a better future. I chose British Columbia because of its mountains, forests, and the lifestyle I’d always imagined. After studying at BCIT and working for several companies, I realized I missed working with my hands. I missed solving real problems and helping people every day.
That brought me back to locksmithing.
After earning my Security Worker Licence, I took the biggest step of my career and started my own locksmith company.
From the very beginning, I wanted to offer more than the typical locksmith service. Yes, we unlock doors and replace locks, but our customers quickly discovered we could do much more. Door repairs, commercial hardware, garage doors, safes, access control systems, target hardening, security upgrades, and custom solutions became part of what we do every day.
Our customers appreciated that they could call one company instead of five different contractors.
As the business grew, I called friends I had worked with over the years and invited them to join me. Today, CaptainLock Locksmith is more than a company it’s a close-knit team of friends who trust each other, enjoy solving difficult problems, and genuinely care about our customers.
That teamwork has allowed us to take on projects that many companies choose not to handle. We regularly work alongside locksmiths, security companies, access control specialists, strata corporations, and property managers throughout the Lower Mainland. Whether we’re helping another contractor finish a complex project or solving a unique security challenge, we’re always happy to lend our experience.
